Pottery Stamp Making - Thursday Evening

January 9, 16, 23 Thursday Evenings
Join artist Carole Meier for lessons in creating pottery stamps for decorating your pottery creations. Registrants will learn to carve small decorative stamps, and also create a "maker's" stamp for your pottery, a tile stamp and a cookie mold.
The first session will involve creating an assortment of pottery stamps. Session two will utilize newly created stamps to create several unique art pieces. The final class will be a lesson on glazing of your creations.
All clay, tools, supplies and materials will be supplied as part of the class fee.

Painting Trees in Winter - January

January 11, 18, 25 from 9:30-11:30am MUD ROOM
Being able to paint a convincing tree is essential to every landscape and wildlife painting. Painting a convincing tree is challenging, especially a winter tree with bare branches. The class will work from photographs.
The first session we will paint a couple of studies of values, edges and color, then do some drawing exercises and finish the session with a block-in. We will get the image mostly painted in the second session and complete the highlights and accents in the third week.
This painting will be done with a limited pallet using only Orange, Ultramarine Blue and white.
Registrants should bring the colors mentioned above, as well as a canvas to paint on. At least a 16x20, preferably a 20x24. In addition, please bring painting knives and a couple of brushes. The small brush should be a #2 filbert or flat, and the larger should be a #8 or #10.
This class is open to all ages. It is open at all stages of learning art - beginner to experienced. Registrants only need to be able to remain engaged for the full class period.

Intro to Improv Theater

Looking for something new and exciting to start your new year? Tired of being cooped up in the house? Have you ever thought you were quick on your feet? Have you always wanted to be onstage but didn't think you had the time or the ability to memorize all of those lines? Well, the Artisan Village may have the perfect answer to the winter blahs. INTRODUCTION TO IMPROVISATIONAL THEATER:IMPROV!
Local actor and radio personality Chad Patterson will draw on his twenty years of performance experience to teach the art of Improvisational Theater. To be part of this cool new class all you need is to be 14 or older, have an open mind and be a willing participant.
This is a eight week class beginning Thursday, January 16, 6:00-8:00, that culminates in helping with the IMPROV performance in March. (March 13) and getting an audition for Gits and Shiggles! This class could lead to YOU becoming a member of our Improv Troupe.
Worried about memorizing lines? Don't. Improv is like life - completely unscripted.

Learning the Potter's Wheel
with Pam Meland
January 22, 2025 6:00-8:30
This two and a half hour workshop (January 22 and Glazing Day Feb 3) is designed to give registrants instruction on successfully using a potter's wheel. Each registrant will choose one of their creations to have kiln dried and then to glaze and complete to take home.
- Learn Mud Room basics including emergency procedures, room rules, and clean up expectations.
- Learn to cut & prepare your clay for the wheel
- Watch a demo of correct usage of the wheel with guided discussion of what is happening. Then use wheel time to get the feel of the clay and to create your form
- Learn to trim, and texturize your piece in preparation for glazing.
All materials and supplies will be there for you. Registration includes the supplies and materials, wheel time and two firings in the kiln.
Join Pam Meland, a veteran artist and an experienced potter from Grayling, for this enjoyable learning event!

Valentines Heart Pendant and Gift Tin in Polymer Clay - morning

Saturday January 25, 2025 9 am -12:30 pm @ AAV Creativity Center
Just in time for Valentines Day, join artist Susan Thiel to learn how to create a personalized heart pendant and matching storage tin out of polymer clay. Students will choose from a variety of heart pendants to create in the color of their choice.
While the pendant is baking, students will create a coordinating polymer clay covered storage tin for the pendant. Students will learn how to cover the tin, texture it, and embellish it with mica powders.
While the tin is baking, students will add a jump ring and silk cord to their pendant.
Ages: 12+ years
Cost: $35 Class is limited to 10 people
