Class Description:
3D Art involves creating artworks that have depth, width and height. No drawing on paper! This art will be touchable! You'll be able to view it from multiple angles, offering a more immersive and tactile experience for kids.
The class will use a variety of materials to create sculptures and a mask as part of this class.
Registering for this class means kids will create sculptures, like Dale Chihuly's art! But, they'll use Shrinky Dinks! It will be fun to see what the students create!

Kids Summer Camp - Marionettes, ages 6-13

Class Description:
This class will focus on a creating a variety of marionette puppets. The class will make at least three marionettes and learn how to manipulate them.
First, they will make a simple marionette, either a cat or a dog. Then, the class will create a clown marionette and practice how to animate it. Finally, the kids will make an animal or person of their choosing.
Using paper mache they will shape a head and then, create the body using a variety of materials.

This course is designed for adults who have completed our Learning the Potter's Wheel and Beyond Basics class.
This intermediate wheel class is designed for individuals who have some experience with throwing on the pottery wheel and want to focus on consistency and efficiency.
The class fee includes your time in the Mud Room, instruction and guidance, a bag of clay, kiln time, and glazes.

Kids Summer Camp: SUMMERTIME STAGE

Class Description:
During the Monday through Thursday class time the students will develop a performance. Then they will have the opportunity to perform their creation after the class on last day of class.
Students will participate in a hands-on, interactive theater experience that will deal with writing, improv, acting and creating scenery. The instructor, Chad Patterson, will take his 20 years experience in working with elementary, middle and high school kids and apply it to giving students a wonderful introduction to the stage that will hopefully spark a lifelong love with theater. We will teach character, voice, movement, improvisation and some backstage responsibilities as well.
All supplies and materials will be provided for this 6 hour class.

Taxidermy Maintenance and Basic Restoration

Class Description:
This class will teach methods for the care and maintenance of taxidermy pieces andcollections, as well as basic restoration techniques for repairing damaged and agingtaxidermy mounts. Using donated taxidermy and some vintage pieces from my own collection, topics coveredwill include insect prevention and treatment, as well as cleaning methods that are safe to use on taxidermy.
Students will also learn how to assess damages, performrepairs, and try out recoloring methods on damaged taxidermy.
Students are welcome to bring easily transportable damaged taxidermy that they own to work on in class (if it is a transportable size-classroom is in the basement at 219 Michigan Ave.) Or bring photos of larger taxidermy for restoration assessment if they would like to.
Students will be able to try out techniques on the demo pieces that will be provided.
All materials and PPE (personal protective equipment) will be provided.

Handbuilt Fishy Fun Ceramic Wall Pockets

Class Description:
In this class students will use stoneware clay to create a fun decorative fish shaped wallpocket that can be used as a planter, vase, remote control caddy, and more! The first class session will be constructing the wall pocket, which will then be bisque fired.
A second session will be scheduled on Saturday, Sept. 13th for glazing the piece, which will be fired a second time before being available for pickup. Each person will create their own fish wall pocket with its own unique character.

Beginner Alcohol Ink

Class Description:
Love those alcohol ink paintings you see in galleries? Wish you knew how they did that?
Grab a beverage from Paddle Hard and saunter downstairs to the AAV Creativity Center to join master teacher and artist Julie Tibus to start at the beginning and learn the techniques of painting with alcohol ink on paper.
Use what you've learned (and practiced) by painting some fun shapes, pictures and things you love! Bright alcohol ink will bring your pieces to life!
And the best part? No experience is necessary! (But if you have some experience, coaching will be at your level.)

Class Description:
If you have wanted to get started (or restarted) in watercolor this class is for you! Join master teacher and artist Julie Tibus as she describes, demonstrates and guides you in the techniques and skills used in watercolor.
You will create a set of unique watercolor cards with beautiful botanicals, including poppies and mountains.
You will also learn about watercolor paint and specific brush techniques, with demonstrations, coaching, and guided practice.
Arches watercolor paper provided.
