Learning the Potter's Wheel

Level: Adult Beginner

Instructor: Lindsey Samotis

Class Description: This two and a half hour workshop is designed to give registrants instruction on successfully using a potter's wheel.  Each registrant will choose one creation to have kiln dried and then to glaze and complete to take home.  

- Learn Mud Room basics including emergency procedures, room rules, and clean up expectations.

- Learn to cut & prepare your clay for the wheel

- Watch a demo of correct usage of the wheel with guided discussion of what is happening. Then use wheel time to get the feel of the clay and to create your form

- Learn to trim, and texturize your piece in preparation for glazing.

All materials and supplies will be there for you. Registration includes the supplies and materials, wheel time and two firings in the kiln.

Watercolor Class: Painting Geraniums

Class Description:

Gain quality insights into the beautiful world of watercolor art under the guidance of award-winning artist, Ruth Forman. Ruth is a Costa Rica-born American artist who has been teaching for over a decade. She has exhibited and won awards world-wide and is a member of many watercolor societies.

Ruth will teach the fundamentals of loose watercolor painting with flowers as a subject, and students will walk away with more confidence in watercolor.

Class Notes:

Students need to bring their own supplies.

Watercolor paper: 140 lb. cold pressed. 11x15”

Mushroom Accent Light

Minimum of 3 to hold class

 

Join polymer clay instructor Susan Thiel to create a unique mushroom light in the color of your choice using translucent polymer clay. Each registrant will make an eight inch translucent mushroom light and create a decorative base for it. Then fairy lights will be threaded through the center of the mushroom, allowing it to light up.

Registrants will have the choice of using a USB string of lights that can be plugged into a socket or a battery-operated light string.

All materials are provided.

Students are encouraged to bring a lunch and/or snack as class will run over lunch. A half hour can be taken as a lunch break during class.

Fall Leaves in Stoneware Clay

Class Notes: Glaze day will be held the following week, Tuesday, September 30th.

Class Description:

Make decorative stoneware clay leaves! Ornaments? Trinket Dishes?  Candy dish?  Even though you may not see yourself as being "an artistic person" you can make these lovely pieces that can be used as coasters, magnets, or wall decoration. 

Emily Millard, who is experienced working in all kinds of clay, will demonstrate several hand-building techniques, as well as how to use a variety of stamps and molds.  She will also guide registrants to shaping and preparing the leaves for going in the kiln.

All materials will be provided including a wide variety of themed stamps. 

Students will complete one or multiple leaves depending on desired sizes and number.
