Learning the Potter's Wheel

This two and a half hour workshop (Glazing Day May 6) is designed to give registrants instruction on successfully using a potter's wheel. Each registrant will choose one of their creations to have kiln dried and then to glaze and complete to take home.
- Learn Mud Room basics including emergency procedures, room rules, and clean up expectations.
- Learn to cut & prepare your clay for the wheel
- Watch a demo of correct usage of the wheel with guided discussion of what is happening. Then use wheel time to get the feel of the clay and to create your form
- Learn to trim, and texturize your piece in preparation for glazing.
All materials and supplies will be there for you. Registration includes the supplies and materials, wheel time and two firings in the kiln.

Handbuilt Decorative Tiles

May 10 1:30-3:30 (Glazing May 24 from 1:30-2:30)
Mud Room
Join in on May 10 to create unique stoneware decorative tiles. Using texture rollers, cutters, and molds to design and build highly decorated tile pieces suitable for hanging, easel display, household or mosaic use.
Each registrant will have time to make at least 2 tiles, aprrox 5x5 inch or similar size, with the guidance of Emily Binard, experienced artist and clay builder. Each work will be dried and bisque fired before the second class session.
All clay and toolswill be provided.
Glazing of each piece is set for May 24. Emily will discuss glazing techniques utilizing both underglaze colors and the cone 5/6 firing glazes available in the mudroom room. Following the allplication of the glaze, pieces will be glaze fired and available for pickup by the following weekend after the second session.

Mushroom Garden Stake for Mother's Day

Family Friendly Event for Mother's Day Memories
It's time to celebrate Mother's Day! Get together, share some lunch and then come to the Ausable Artisan Village to enjoy quality time creating memories and beautiful mushroom garden stakes. No experience required. Instructor Pam Meland will guide you step by step!
This workshop is designed for a Mom/Grandmother and up to two children under the age of 12. The registration fee covers all three people and all materials.
Your pieces will be carefully dried in the kiln and you will return on May 18 (2:00-4:00) and apply the glaze. This will protect them so they can go outside or remain inside to brighten you home. After a final baking in the kiln, the mushsrooms will be ready for you to pick up.

Ceramic Planter Class
with Emily Millard

Thursday, May 15 6:-8:00pm Glaze, May 22 Adults
Beginner or experienced, join in this class to make a unique ceramic planter using texture rollers, stamps, cutters and molds. Each registrant can design and create a slab-built planter anywhere from 2-7" diameter which will be suitable for indoor or outdoor use. The planter will be dried and bisque fired prior to the second session.
During the second session, registrants will choose between a wide variety of glazes and paint the glaze or glazes on their piece. Following glazing the piece will be fired again and available for pickup by the following week.
Emily Millard will guide you through the whole process including the glazing of your one of a kind planter.
