Class Description:

Take your glazing to a whole new level of creativity. Raku glazing is unique of itself, but the process can be pushed beyond simply coloring ceramic pottery. By using wax, orhorsehair, or adding design or airbrush highlights the process can take on a uniqueness of it own. I will have examples and photos to stimulate your imagination.

Once the work has been glazed, you can participate in the firing process. Bring with you two pieces that you’d like to glaze. These should be bisque fired, but if the piece is bone dry, it can be glazed in the greenware stage. If you are firing a coffee mug and want it food safe, then you must, before bringing it to class, glaze and fire the inside with a high-fire glaze leaving the outside of the mug for the Raku process.

Class Notes: Course fee includes clay, use of studio tools, a rainbow of cone 5-6 glazes to choose from, and firing for up to 10-12 pieces. 

Class Description:

Expand your pottery knowledge and skills by learning to work with larger amounts of clay, work on your centering and pulling, and learn trimming and glazing techniques for larger pieces.

There will be one or more demonstrations in each session and discussion on techniques and best practices. You will have work time to develop and gain feedback on your individual process.

This class is designed for potters interested in refining their skills, pushing what you can currently achieve, and expanding on fundamentals. Potters should be familiar with all the steps of throwing and should be able to comfortably center and pull 1.5 pounds of clay. The amount of clay used will vary by student depending on your current comfort level.

The October class is structured as follows:

◦ October 10: wedging appropriate amounts of clay and throwing wider based bowls

◦ October 17: trimming large bowls

◦ October 24: throwing smaller based-bowls

◦ October 31: Glazing techniques, especially for larger pieces

Class Notes: This class will encourage you to evaluate what is the source of life that "feeds you"; the class process will lead you to examine what parts of your life provide the enjoyment and excitement that enhances your spirit as well as explore the thoughts or activities that detract from those things that make you feel you are at your best.  

The art making that results will help you to visually see the things that truly ground you as well as those things (be it behaviors, or attitudes, or ?) that you wish to let go of and not permit to be a part of your life.  

Class Description:  Linda has ejoyed working with her students in this very introspective class through a series of questions and points of contemplation.  She will be asking you to identify words that connect with the concept of behaviors that both enhance and detract from your life.  You will be creating a work of art that incorporates the shapes of fall leaves into an image that will represent a tree with branches. You will be adding artistically designed  leaves to the branches as well as place other leaves mid air and onto the ground  as one sees the trees that change color in the fall.    

You can enjoy focusing your artistic activity on the creation of a visually exciting tree  with foliage and ground.  By the end of the class you should have a frameable and very personal work of art.

Class Notes:  Please wear clothes that may be potentially dyed with an accidental fling of the fabric.  You may wish to also put on a trash bag as an additional protection for your clothing!  Class meets downstairs in the AAV main building classroom.

Class Description:

This class will provide an exciting opportunity to "Tie Dye" using Indigo Ink Dye.  You will be provided with both a scarf and a long sleeve t-shirt that will be rubber banded into twisted shapes that then go into an indigo dye bath.  

Should a registrant with to purchase additional scarves or t-shirts they can be purchased for $17 per scarf/$25 per t-shirt.  Your tie dye creations will be fun to wear AND could make a wonderful gift for the upcoming holiday.  Your instructor will be bringing along some fun examples of the multitude of ways your design may appear. 

Since you must allow for additional time for the scarf and shirt to dry, you will leave this class with both of your creations in a plastic bag and later will unband them and enjoy seeing the beaultiful designs.  Space may be limited so consider getting a buddy/friend/relative to sign up with you!  There is a minimum of 3 registrants for the class to be held.

Class Description: 

Interested in a relaxed crash course on using a potter's wheel? This course is for you! In this two and a half hour session, students will learn the basics of working with clay on a potter's wheel and receive guided hands-on experience from an instructor.

Each student leaves the class with two handmade creations. Students in the class can expect to:

-Learn Mud Room basics including emergency procedures, room rules, and clean up expectations

-Learn to prepare clay for the wheel

-Watch a wheel throwing demo with guided discussion of the steps 

-Spend time practicing basic wheel throwing techniques

-Have fun!

Registration includes all supplies and materials, wheel time, a glaze day, and two firings in the kiln.
