You may ask - What is Plein Air painting?

Plein Air painting simply means painting outdoors. Each scheduled week we will meet at a new location to hone our Plein Air painting skills.

Once you sign up you will be given a suggested tools list and the time and location where we will meet. The final week (July 5th) we will meet and paint at the Uncommon Ranch Lavender and Herb Farm on Chase Bridge Road.

At the last meeting at the Lavender Farm you can choose to enter your art into their “Canvas and Cocktail Art Auction” to be held on July 19th at the Uncommon Ranch newest building. This is a wonderful way to meet new friends, paint outdoors and gather with other creatives.

Rain dates will be the very next day (Sunday).

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Christine White is your leader in this adventure. Christine (Chris) lives locally and has been a represented artist at the AuSable Artisan Village Gallery over 10 years and has been in the commercial and private art world for over 50 years.

Prerequisite: Potter's wheel class at Artisan Village (or contact us)

This class is designed to provide guided practice time for those who have taken a first wheel class. It is not appropriate for those who have not taken an initial class.

An experienced teacher will guide and assist as needed.

Final Glaze Day to be determined during first session.

Two sessions creating three garden art flowers in clay. Instruction in handbuilding an original design from Carole Meier's studio.

You will be learning about tools created to build your project.  Class will include discussion of concepts in the process of designing successful finished products.

Fun! The family (or a friend) is coming and you'd like to spend three hours together in the Mud Room (or Creativity Center) to experience stoneware clay while everyone creates a unique and original piece.

In this class Grandma, Grandpa, Grandson, Mom and Dad will be experiencing and creating clay pieces together in the Mud Room. This class was specially design for this group!

The price is determined by the number of people and the type of class you would like.  This class is not meant to be a private lesson for individuals to hone their skills, but a fun class for small groups that includes an instructor to provide guidance.  $65 each person for up to four people for a three hour class and include basic supplies, glaze time and two firings.

Private Party Art Classes can be designed around other art media such as polymer clay, air dried clay, jewelry, drawing or painting and would be held in the Creativity Center.

Tuesday, July 1, 2025  6:00-8:30

This two and a half hour workshop is designed to give registrants instruction on successfully using a potter's wheel. Each registrant will choose one of their creations to have kiln dried and then to glaze and complete to take home.  

- Learn Mud Room basics including emergency procedures, room rules, and clean up expectations.

- Learn to cut & prepare your clay for the wheel

- Watch a demo of correct usage of the wheel with guided discussion of what is happening. Then use wheel time to get the feel of the clay and to create your form

- Learn to trim, and texturize your piece in preparation for glazing.

All materials and supplies will be there for you. Registration includes the supplies and materials, wheel time and two firings in the kiln.

Ruth Forman is back and offering a new watercolor class the weekend before our race!  Join us for a relaxing and informative sessioln!

Grayling is home to two famous rivers.  Both are quality trout streams.  Join Ruth Forman as she captures that "fishing vibe" in watercolor.

Gain quality insights into the beautiful world of watercolor art under the guidance of award-winning artist, Ruth Forman. Ruth is a Costa Rica-born American artist who has been teaching for over a decade. She has exhibited and won awards world-wide and is a member of many watercolor societies. Ruth will teach the fundamentals of loose watercolor painting with flowers as a subject, and students will walk away with more confidence in watercolor.

This class is designed for 14+ to adults.

Students need to bring their own supplies.
