Class Description: 

If you are an inexperienced person who has fears over your ability to draw this is a great class for you. Wendy can also provide guidance and suggestions that will help a person more comfortable with drawing as well.

With the variety of activities that are coverered throughout the series of classes you will be able to better understand the words and ideas used by artists as well as be able to see your own progress when you look back at where your first started to draw with where you end up by the end of the series.

Wendy wants to make sure that at the end of the series you can discuss your next steps with respect to what direction you as a creative person would like to go on to learn about and with what materials you may wish to use.

Drawing is the basic medium that opens the door to creativity with other art making materials. You will leave this class with a newfound belief in your own drawing abilities!

Class Description: 

Interested in a relaxed crash course on using a potter's wheel? This course is for you! In this two and a half hour session, students will learn the basics of working with clay on a potter's wheel and receive guided hands-on experience from an instructor.

Each student leaves the class with two handmade creations. Students in the class can expect to:

-Learn Mud Room basics including emergency procedures, room rules, and clean up expectations

-Learn to prepare clay for the wheel

-Watch a wheel throwing demo with guided discussion of the steps 

-Spend time practicing basic wheel throwing techniques

-Have fun!

Class Description: 

In this class students will use stoneware clay to create a fun decorative fish shaped wallpocket that can be used as a planter, vase, remote control caddy, and more! The first class session will be constructing the wall pocket, which will then be bisque fired.

A second session will be scheduled on Saturday, Sept. 13th for glazing the piece, which will be fired a second time before being available for pickup. Each person will create their own fish wall pocket with its own unique character.

Join us for a friendly, hands-on workshop that explores the playful magic of gelli plate printing.  The class is designed for makers who want to deepen their printing skills and experiment with layered color, texture, and mark-making. However, no formal prerequisites are required and newcomers will be comfortable.

You will gain familiarity with basic gelli plate techniques. No matter what level of experience you have had, you will enjoy the fast moving and excitement of this process.

Over the morning you’ll

• practice building successful monotype prints,
• explore stencils and use simple texture making elements, and
• learn ways to create rich surface effects.

You will leave with several finished prints and ideas to continue at home, you wish to use your printed images with collage making or greeting cards.  Expect relaxed instruction, plenty of experimentation, and friendly feedback in a supportive atmosphere. A welcome letter, materials list and any prep notes will be provided after registration.

No experience necessary – just come ready to explore!

Learn how to take better pictures by using ALL the settings on your own digital camera-DSLR or Point-and-Shoot. Your instructor will show you how and when to use your settings and make simple adjustments to improve your pictures. The class covers composition, focal point, shutter speed, aperture, white balance, ISO and much more.

Bring your camera and owner’s manual. Wear appropriate clothing to go outside and use the information you learn in class each week. Students will complete the course with their own 8 X 10 matted print to take home. (Mat provided)

Class Description:

Have you always wanted to take a pottery class but not sure where to start? Look no further! Pinch pots are an ideal starting point because they build vital hand-to-clay sensitivity which helps to build skills for more advanced practices

In this beginner pinch pot class, instructor Mac Gutierrez will introduce foundational handbuilding ceramic skills. Students will learn to wedge clay, shape a smooth sphere, open the center with a thumb, and pinch evenly upward to build bowls, cups, or planters without a pottery wheel.

Class Description:

Join instructor and artist, Emily Binard, to create unique stoneware decorative tiles. Using texture rollers, cutters, and molds to design and build highly decorated tile pieces suitable for hanging, easel display, household or mosaic use.

Each registrant will have time to make at least 2 tiles, aprrox 5x5 inch or similar size. Each work will be dried and bisque fired before the second class session.

All clay and tools will be provided.

Emily will discuss glazing techniques utilizing both underglaze colors and the cone 5/6 firing glazes available in the mudroom room. Following the application of the glaze, pieces will be glaze fired and available for pickup by the following weekend after the second session.
