In this beginner friendly class you’ll learn to center clay and create a small ring or trinket dish.

Learning the Potter's Wheel

Class Description: This two and a half hour workshop is designed to give registrants instruction on successfully using a potter's wheel.  Each registrant will choose one creation to have kiln dried and then to glaze and complete to take home.  

- Learn Mud Room basics including emergency procedures, room rules, and clean up expectations.

- Learn to cut & prepare your clay for the wheel

- Watch a demo of correct usage of the wheel with guided discussion of what is happening. Then use wheel time to get the feel of the clay and to create your form

- Learn to trim, and texturize your piece in preparation for glazing.

All materials and supplies will be there for you. Registration includes the supplies and materials, wheel time and two firings in the kiln.

Intro to Clay Mold Making

Class Description:

Learn to create molds using stoneware clay for use in ceramic handbuilding. Pleasenote: this class involves 3 class sessions spaced 2 weeks apart, 1.5 hours long each.

First session we will create the molds using small objects and clay tools, utilizing pressure and carving techniques.

The second session we will use the bisque firedmolds to create decorative tiles, demonstrating their images.

The final session we willglaze the fired tiles we made with the clay molds.

The glazed pieces will be fired oncemore before being available for pickup. The 2 week intervals allow time for the clay todry and be fired before the next session.

Handbuilding a Ceramic Pumpkin

Class Description:

Come hand-build a pumpkin or a gourd for Thanksgiving! Make 1 big pumpkin/gourd or several smaller ones depending on your choice. 

The first session will be shaping the pumpkin out of clay and decorating it various ways (with many different texture stamps available).

The 2nd session (a week later, after the pieces are bisque fired) will be glazing with a wide variety of color choices available. 

No prior clay/ceramic/pottery experience necessary.

Handbuilding Ceramic Bird Figurines

Class Description:

We will use pinch pot handbuilding techniques and clay tools to create fun little stoneware bird figurines.

These little birds can be used indoors or outdoors for whimsical décor, and make great gifts for birdwatchers.

This class has 2 sessions spaced 2 weeks apart. The first session is for building the birds, the second is for glazing them.

The 2 week interval allows time for the clay pieces to dry and be fired between the sessions, the pieces will be fired again after glazing before being available for pickup.
