Adult Intermediate Wheel Throwing

Dates: 4 Tuesdays September 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd.

Time: 10:00 am-1:00pm

Class Notes: A class designed for students who have some experience with centering, opening, and pulling up walls.

Instructor: Jan Wachowski 

Description:

We will focus on refining your technique, improving your throwing skills, enlarging your pieces, and experimenting with different methods and forms.

I will demonstrate throwing cylinders, bowls, and plates, as well as different methods for making lids and handles. You may also request additional instruction for specific pottery pieces or problems.  

The class fee includes your time in the mudroom, instruction and guidance, clay, kiln time, and glazes.

Introduction to the Potter's Wheel

Glaze Date: Wednesday Sept 30th at 6pm. 

Level: Adult Beginner

Class Notes: Bring a smock or wear clothes that can get a little messy.

Class Description: 

Interested in a relaxed crash course on using a potter's wheel? This course is for you! In this two and a half hour session, students will learn the basics of working with clay on a potter's wheel and receive guided hands-on experience from an instructor.

Each student leaves the class with two handmade creations. Students in the class can expect to:

-Learn Mud Room basics including emergency procedures, room rules, and clean up expectations

-Learn to prepare clay for the wheel

-Watch a wheel throwing demo with guided discussion of the steps 

-Spend time practicing basic wheel throwing techniques

-Have fun!

Registration includes all supplies and materials, wheel time, a glaze day, and two firings in the kiln.

Handbuilt Fishy Fun Ceramic Wall Pockets

Class Description

In this class students will use stoneware clay to create a fun decorative fish shaped wallpocket that can be used as a planter, vase, remote control caddy, and more! The first class session will be constructing the wall pocket, which will then be bisque fired.

A second session will be scheduled on Saturday, Sept. 13th for glazing the piece, which will be fired a second time before being available for pickup. Each person will create their own fish wall pocket with its own unique character.

Handbuilt Decorative Tiles

Instructor: Emily Binard

Class Description:

Join instructor and artist, Emily Binard, to create unique stoneware decorative tiles. Using texture rollers, cutters, and molds to design and build highly decorated tile pieces suitable for hanging, easel display, household or mosaic use.

Each registrant will have time to make at least 2 tiles, aprrox 5x5 inch or similar size. Each work will be dried and bisque fired before the second class session.

All clay and tools will be provided.

Emily will discuss glazing techniques utilizing both underglaze colors and the cone 5/6 firing glazes available in the mudroom room. Following the application of the glaze, pieces will be glaze fired and available for pickup by the following weekend after the second session.

Ready to take the plunge and start your pottery wheel journey? This beginner series includes 4 instructor-led sessions and 1 independent glaze day and focuses on learning the basic techniques of working on the potter's wheel. Students can expect to leave this series feeling confident in the basic steps of wheel throwing. In this class, students will: 

- Learn Mud Room basics including emergency procedures, room rules, and clean up expectations

- Learn to prepare clay for the wheel

- Receive skill-based instruction to cone, center, open and shape a piece on the wheel

-Spend time refining basic wheel throwing skills 

-Have fun!
