Learning the Potter's Wheel

Class Description: This two and a half hour workshop is designed to give registrants instruction on successfully using a potter's wheel. Each registrant will choose one of their creations to have kiln dried and then to glaze and complete to take home.
- Learn Mud Room basics including emergency procedures, room rules, and clean up expectations.
- Learn to cut & prepare your clay for the wheel
- Watch a demo of correct usage of the wheel with guided discussion of what is happening. Then use wheel time to get the feel of the clay and to create your form
- Learn to trim, and texturize your piece in preparation for glazing.
All materials and supplies will be there for you. Registration includes the supplies and materials, wheel time and two firings in the kiln.

Alcohol Ink Jewelry Making

Join Julie Tibus for a fun night crafting beautiful jewelry! Grab a beverage in Paddle Hard and come downstairs to the Creativity Center. All materials supplied and each registrant will take home three unique pieces of jewelry.
Start with learning how to work with alcohol ink and create unique alcohol ink abstract papers.
Next, select 3 settings: earrings, bracelets, pendants, and rings.
Then, discover how to add your alcohol ink creations.
Now you have crafted your own distinctive, beautiful jewelry.
Each student will take home three stunning pieces of jewelry.

ABOUT JULIE TIBUS: A graduate of The College for Creative Studies with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, Julie has over 15 years of professional experience in selling and exhibiting her artwork. Recently, she has opted for a nomadic lifestyle, selling everything and traveling across the United States to teach and showcase her art. Julie's boundless curiosity drives her to experiment with emerging mediums and discover innovative techniques. Her unique creations are inspired by nature and what she sees on her travels. Teaching is her way of sharing her passion for art with others.

Taxidermy Maintenance and Basic Restoration

Class Description:
This class will teach methods for the care and maintenance of taxidermy pieces andcollections, as well as basic restoration techniques for repairing damaged and agingtaxidermy mounts. Using donated taxidermy and some vintage pieces from my own collection, topics coveredwill include insect prevention and treatment, as well as cleaning methods that are safe to use on taxidermy.
Students will also learn how to assess damages, performrepairs, and try out recoloring methods on damaged taxidermy.
Students are welcome to bring easily transportable damaged taxidermy that they own to work on in class (if it is a transportable size-classroom is in the basement at 219 Michigan Ave.) Or bring photos of larger taxidermy for restoration assessment if they would like to.
Students will be able to try out techniques on the demo pieces that will be provided.
All materials and PPE (personal protective equipment) will be provided.
