Mini Fairy Garden in Clay - Friends and Family Class
with Susan Thiel

Saturday June 14 9am – 1 pm
Ages 10+ years
Max 8 gardens
Join teacher and artist Susan Thiel to create your personalized mini fairy garden. Using a recycled container such as an old tea cup or a clay pot, students will learn how to make mini houses and accessories out of polymer clay to create their own mini garden.
Students can choose to make their garden totally out of clay (no watering required) or just make ornaments to adorn a container garden with small plants. Unlike past classes that heavily relied on the use of cutters and molds, this class will teach students how to sculpt with their hands and make these items using typical household items such as a toothbrush, toothpick, tweezers, and a knife.
Working in miniature may seem intimidating but it is easier than it looks. With a little patience and some tips, you will be able to create your own fairy garden accessories in no time. Students will learn how to create mini houses, bushes, mushrooms, flowers/flowerbeds, a bench, a pathway & steps, a campfire pit and logs or a pool out of clay.
If time allows Susan will work with individuals to create more additional pieces like an arbor/arch, mini lanterns, birdhouse, tree, etc. Once items are crafted, students will be shown how to bake the items. After the class is complete, students should be comfortable to make additional pieces at home if they want to expand their garden
This class is suitable for children and adults and is a great opportunity to have family and friends take a class together. If someone has a container at home they want to use, they are welcome to bring it. A selection of pots and cups will be available for students to use.
