Twisted Copper and Silver Cuff
with Betsy Lehndorff
This class offers you a chance to find out what it is like to do some really basic silversmithing and leave with a unique piece of jewelry. Your instructor, Betsy Lehndorff, has been creating these cuffs for the past year and even wrote about this step-by-step project for a national magazine.
Before you touch the pricy sterling, you’ll work with inexpensive copper wire, learning how to soften and twist it into two basic shapes. Then you’ll be ready to tackle silver, making a valuable memento for yourself.
Instead of expensive jewelry making tools, you’ll be using items from your local hardware store, including locking pliers, mallets, wire cutters, files, a plumber’s torch and a vise. If you have any of these at home, bring them with you. Betsy will also bring a bracelet mandrel and provide you with class notes and resources if you want to get more involved in making these at home. Betsy sells her cuffs in galleries (in lots of other patterns), gives them as gifts and donates them to fundraisers.
There will be a lunch break or you can keep working. You may bring your own lunch and snacks or order from a local restaurant. Coffee By Steph will be open as well as Paddle Hard.
All registrants will sign a participant liability waiver before the class. To be on the safe side, tie long hair back and wear closed-toe shoes.
Materials fee for the silver $50. Pay instructor cash at beginning of class.
